Why was Judy at home yesterday (Monday)? Was there a Covid outbreak in the studio?

The plot thickens, but we’ve seen this top/dress before. (Judy’s lost her legs again, unfortunately.)

Here’s a contrast:

I could start a whole blog on Kayleigh McEnany’s outfits. It would be called “NSFW” (Not Suitable for Work”). Let’s take a closer look:

This is by far NOT the most inappropriate outfit the White House Press Secretary has worn but I can say for certain that this blogger’s mother would not have let her out of the house in it.

The only thing Kayleigh and Lisa have in common is they both have their eyes closed. I actually like Lisa’s eyes closed in this picture. They match the curve of the diver’s body and the black piping on her neckline. So appropriate. Plus — her cat is back.

RIP John Thomson, the great Georgetown basketball coach for 27 seasons, who was so much more than a coach to his players. The above photo is recent, but here’s how most of us remember him, with his players around him:

… A big man with big gold glasses and a big heart!

This is an interesting outfit. At first, I hated it, but the closer I look, the more I like it. If I had to guess the designer, I’d say Carolina Herrera, but not this Fall’s collection. The tailoring is perfect on this dress — look at the shoulders, the bust, how it goes in at the waist, and the sleeves are close-fitting on the forearm but not too snug.

But Judy’s isn’t the dress you want to talk about, is it?

Astute political observers will know that, despite the caption, this isn’t Shields and Brooks, but Dystopian Don and his female captive. The neon-green Valentino dress is estimated to have cost $2700. So much for Made in the U.S. of A. So much for off-the-rack J. Crew.

Let’s take a closer look:

Don’t miss the fuchsia pumps Melania is sporting with it.

Let’s look at that queenly train-type deal from the back:

Mrs. Trump’s Valentino dress had long, fluttering panels attached to the shoulders.

Here’s the problem. Lime green is just like a green screen in tv, onto which you can project anything.

The Queen herself learned that in 2016:

But the Trumps are not known to be students of history.

And the internet was off.

Here’s my fave — an embodiment of the Goya endorsement the family made in July (the first is a real photo of Ivanka, taken last month):

Buckle up everyone. It’s time for the real campaign to begin.

It’s gonna be ugly.

After a long week covering the Dems’ convention, Judy was still standing last Friday, and in a new dress! Fetching! Let’s get a closer look at that neckline:

Saucy, but not quite as saucy as it first appears: there is sheer, pantyhose-like fabric behind each of those darts. Anyone remember pantyhose?

I didn’t think so.

David and Mark were strong on Friday, but nothing to write you about, gentle reader. I think we were all worn out from the week.

Judy in her best funereal attire for the Republican (can we really call it that? Is it the Republican party any more, or just Trump’s?) convention on Monday:

What a contrast to her fun, flirty Friday look.

While Judy was covering the Trump convention, Stephanie Sy showed up. I’m not sold on her or her overcomplicated top:

I’m sure this blogger wouldn’t be able to figure out even how to put that on.

She’s the only reporter I’ve seen with fiction on her bookshelves, including The Goldfinch, by Donna Tartt. No problem with that. I liked that book when it came out a few years ago:

The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt

The problem is greater than “Sy’s just not Judy.” I would take Amna or Yamiche, or of course Laura, over her. Maybe even John Yang.

A new face on the NewsHour is Special Correspondent Jane Ferguson, seen on Friday reporting from Beirut. Here’s her glam shot:

Jane Ferguson in Beirut (2018)

A mere child (born in 1984; I’m old), but a lovely one and tough enough to withstand Beirut. Let me see if I can get a shot of her from that piece because she looks great without (much) makeup:

A darling, scrappy little thing. Nice addition to the NewsHour. Thanks to alert reader John for noticing her work.

Thanks for reading!

Kam, please don’t yell at Judy! She looks great!

A closer look reveals a nice pattern on the suit. I wish I knew what its name was. I also like the big red buttons and the lipstick that goes with the outfit but doesn’t scream “red”:

Today, I thought we would take a look at women’s political fashion.

Until fairly recently, red was the color of choice for women politicos.

See, e.g., early Liz Warren:

… And don’t forget Pat Schroeder:

But the balance of power has clearly shifted to white, which Nancy, Hillary AND Gabby wore last night at the convention:

Noteworthy is the fact that Hillary trail-blazed white (pantsuit again) when she accepted the Dem nomination in 2016:

So I’m not sure that color choice bodes well for the Dems. (Apologies for poor image quality.)

One shout-out to the men: Barak looked SMOOTH in blue (notice that American flag colors are the theme here) last night at the Convention as he ripped into Trump:

For all this, I love that Pearls chose brown, and of course, her million-dollar smile. I don’t even know what this shade of brown is called:

Kamala Harris' Speech at Democratic National Convention: Watch ...

She is breaking the mold all over the place and we love it.

She can stand! It’s a miracle!

On Monday, Judy showed she can move out of her house, into her regular studio and thence to a new Dem Convention-ready studio! Plus she can stand up! After so many months in lockdown, I’m not sure I can say the same.

I love this suit. I’ve seen it before, but it’s just right for her first night of virtual Convention coverage.

So impressive that Judy can go right from the NewsHour into hours and hours and nights and nights of coverage. What stamina! What grit! And we Americans love grit! Lots of gritty grit (not to be confused with Gritty):

Flyers Mascot Gritty Investigated for Allegedly Punching 13-Year ...

That is really its name.

Also good to see the beleaguered Belarusian opposition leader reads this here blog. She took my advice about not wearing a white suit with a white background. Perhaps that’s why the opposition is gaining traction.

I must say, little Laura was lookin’ sharp and windblown in Miwaukee:

OK, she does not look sharp in this shot, but her hair looked good.

But wait, who’s this?

According to PBS, it’s award-winning journalist Stephanie Sy.

Or is it? Upon further review, the two pictures look like different people. Stephanie Sy was named Anchor of PBS NewsHour West at the end of July. Good thing my annoying pre-school archivist has gone back (virtually) to school, or she’d be in time out right now for missing that news entirely. Stay tuned as we probe the question: is this Sy some kind of shape-shifter?

Judy looked great last night (Tuesday). Grey doesn’t get enough press in the fashion world:

Even Giant Michelle “Becoming” Obama-Head wants to give Judy a smackeroo, she looks so perfect. Love the rolled-back sleeves and the side seams/pleats on the skirt. Glad Judy didn’t feel tethered to red, white and blue.

Sorry this post was late, but here’s hoping that you, gentle readers, find it to be timeless!

I am obliged to start with Thursday’s look. At first, I liked it because it’s a print is a good change once in a while. It’s an interesting print — kind of like an unfinished paint-by-numbers. If you look closely, you will see that, mingled in with the blue and yellow flowers, there is a gray, un-colored-in one. Interesting. I wish I knew more about fashion so I could figure out who designed it. I wouldn’t like this look every day, though.

Friday marked a return to fine form:

A late Labor Day this year means you can get more wear out of that, Judy!

That message apparently made it way to the beleaguered state of Belarus:

Poor Sviatlana. Things are not going well for her team. Can we point to the error of a white suit against a white background as a reason?

The remark of the week for me came during Shields and Brooks, not surprisingly.

Close watchers will note that Judy gives Mark and David a sweet head-tilt from time to time. She doesn’t do that for any other guests.

Anyway, the moment came when Judy asked Mark about Basement Joe’s pick of Kamala “Pearls” Harris. He said, “I know it’s inappropriate to say it but she has an absolutely million dollar smile,” Judy came right back with, “We’ll let you say that, Mark.”

Yes, we will.

Sure, it was a big news day – Basement Joe picked the first Black woman as a VP candidate, the first Indian as a VP candidate, the daughter of immigrants, California’s first Black district attorney, and a “fearless fighter,” as he describes Kamala Harris, but…

That news was overshadowed by the fact that we saw Judy’s waist for the first time in six months!

So let’s focus on what’s important – fashion! Judy looks great in orange and I love this outfit. Love the big collar and the seventies wrap belt. I think it’s a shirt dress. What if it’s a pants suit? That would be awesome.

Back to the other news. This blogger is rubbing her mitts together at the prospect of a new fashionista to cover. Kamala has been around a while, but there were so many Presidential candidates it didn’t seem worth the time to focus on one.

Early returns indicate KH is a snappy dresser: lots of big double strands of white pearls, big pearl clip earrings. Faux or real, who cares?

She appears to favor suits with clean lines – all business but nowhere near frumpy or asexual.

This should be fun!

She’s baaaaaaaackkkk! Yes! Judy’s in the house! Rather, Judy’s NOT in the house.

Judy’s in the studio! No one was more shocked than this blogger! What a thrill! I had no advance warning, I assure you.

A Monday two-fer with Nancy again, after the Friday two-fer, both lovely in royal blue this time:

The astute reader will notice (1) that PBS had to rely on Fox for footage of the Nancy interview, and (2) Judy and Nancy didn’t wear the same color the same day, because the Nancy spot was on Sunday, but we can let that slide for art’s sake.

Yamiche and Lisa were still at home. Lisa looked nice. I was about to conduct an intervention and stuff Lisa full of oatmeal “creme” pies last week,

Little Debbie Club Pack Snack Cakes, Oatmeal Creme Pies

but she looked stronger yesterday.

Something was up with her couch, though:

Oftentimes, there’s a big cat lounging about on it, but not today. The cushions are in disarray and Lisa’s not hefty enough to block out the view. Did the cat go crazy? Was Lisa snogging on the couch just before this spot? We’ll never know…

Another pretty in pink two-fer on Friday: Judy and Nancy this time.

I would do “who wore it best” but they both look lovely. I’ll give it to Judy because this is her blog and because she wore delicate drop earrings that went well with the dress. I think it was a dress. Who knows these days?

Friday was the seventy-fifth anniversary of Hiroshima bombing. This blogger remembers reading the Hersey book, to which a whole issue of the New Yorker at the time was dedicated. I was about 12. Made quite an impression.

Mrs. Shields must have had company because Mark was shoved in the closet (again) like so much dirty laundry. Too bad, because he had a nice white shirt on instead of the usual blue, which he apparently gave to David. Nice to see they are so good at sharing.

Sorry this was so late!

We know that Judy’s worn this shirt before. It’s past my annoying preschool archivist’s bedtime, and believe me, I’m not going to wake her just to get the date Judy wore it last. Impossible to see in this shot, but Judy’s wearing her mega-dangly earrings and they complement the midnight-blue silk number. She seems to have upped her lipstick game.

First up was Eeyore — I mean Larry Kudlow, tearful Director of the U.S. Economic Security Council.

Eeyore Quotes: 12 Amazing Witticisms from Eeyore | Oh My Disney

Oh wait. I keep getting the photos mixed up. Here’s Lachrymose Larry:

Despite attempting to get falsehoods past Judy about what he termed the dramatic improvement of the U.S. economy, for the duration of the interview, Larry looked like he was on the verge of great, wracking sobs.

Cheer up, Larry. Judy was tough on Nancy Pelosi, too. Tough but fair.

For the past 20 weeks in a row, more than one million Americans filed for unemployment. This week, it was 1.2 million, which Eeyore saw as good news, because that is fewer than last week. (Looks like rain.)

Some interesting takes on back-to-school or not back-to-school, but the big news of the day is that this blogger got the most boss hat ever:

Don’t even think of trying to snag this sweet lid.

I know you want to.
